Ensure Accessibility Compliance

All electronic products or services purchased by the University should be accessible to individuals with disabilities. Some staff, students, faculty, and the public may find it difficult or impossible to use an electronic product/service that has significant accessibility problems. This situation exposes the University to risk and undermines the University’s commitment to accessibility. Additionally, it is cheaper and easier to acquire accessible SaaS and cloud computing technology when making the initial purchase, rather than trying to remediate an accessibility problem after purchase. 

  • Have a Web Accessibility expert do a review of a campus system or application regarding the accessibility requirements before installation, project initiation, or contract execution. Please contact digital-accessibility@berkeley.edu with any questions. 

UC Berkeley is committed to buying the most accessible products whenever possible. Below is a link to information that demonstrates our commitment to accessibility and adherence to the UC-wide IT accessibility policy:

WCAG 2.0 Checklist

For web-based products or services, Suppliers must demonstrate how these products/services are
accessible to individuals with disabilities and/or how they comply with WCAG 2.0 level AA standards.
Additional information about WCAG 2.0 level AA standards can be found on the WebAIM website (pdf).
Suppliers must answer the following questions and complete the Web Accessibility Assessment Form prior to making Saas and Cloud Computing purchases for the University.

UC Terms & Conditions of Purchase

The supplier should be able to warrant that it complies with California and federal disability laws and regulations and the Services will conform to the accessibility requirements of WCAG 2.0AA.  Suppliers need to agree to promptly respond to and resolve any complaint regarding the accessibility of its web-based services.
